Let the sunshine into your wardrobe
Spring has always brought longer days and more light into our lives. This spring designers are flooding the catwalks at London Fashion Week with bold colour blocks, contrast colours and contrasting prints!
Designers are clashing and mashing prints! How far you go is up to you, but one thing is clear the clothing is confident and it sparkles – so think fabulous and have some fun with it!
I want to give you some inspiration to ‘colour your life’ and there’s no better way to ‘dip your toe in’ than by using accessories to do this! But remember there are no rules. Tends can be mashed together – more layers, more fun!
If you are like me and prefer to stick to your wardrobe staples – blue/white jeans, a plain tee then the perfect way to embrace the spring is by adding a bold print scarf. ‘Sunset shades’ from neon pinks, to corals right through to sunshine yellow.
Nothing says summer like yellow does, it also boosts your mood brightens your face. It doesn’t stop here – all bold colours and blocks of colour are right-on trend for spring/summer.
Pastel shades come in all colours from punchy to delicate sweet hues. A blush, a bugglegum pink or powder blue scarf adds an air of sunny days and outdoor fun to your outfit.
When I think of stripes my first thought is a nautical one of blue and white deckchair stripes with white jeans or shorts. It’s one of those timeless, effortless and chic looks that never dates. Think striped tees and lightweight scarfs in soft hues of colour! Then you could layer it with gold jewellery! Remember more layers, more fun!
Some leading fashion editors have called this the print of the season. From tiny dots to giant playschool prints – fashion’s coming out in spots! I wear it only as an accessory and predominately in black and white with hints of red or nude. Take a look in your wardrobe and think about how you can add some dots. My picks are – polka dot headhead, polka dot scarf with black, white and red and a beach cover up in nude with some larger, playful spots! Key pieces that can be interchanged for everyday wear! It has been said that pearls are as chic as champagne and as timeless as afternoon tea! Mix modern pearl jewels with hair accessories and jewellery and you have created your own ‘everyday pearls’! I am already wearing pearl earrings and pearls with sparkle in my hair. I am particularly embracing headbands too this season. Adorned headbands are huge for summer and it is worth trying a few to find one that will suit you.
When is a check ever not on trend? There are fabulous scarves that combine soft pastel checks that are perfect with shirts and t ‘shirts and ideal for holiday travelling.
Treat snake print as your new neutral by adding it to your everyday wardrobe. Layer over a basic tee and classic boyfriend jeans. How about a kimono in pale pink and beige hues – it doubles up as a perfect beach cover up and looks great with jeans and a vest top.
I think the best way to describe what I want to say is ‘too much is NEVER too much!’ Jewellery in all its styles, colours and sparkle is everywhere from statement earrings with Swarovski crystals, diamonds and pearls to layered necklaces, bracelets and rings with shells, coins, hearts, words…. anything and everything. My advice – wear it all and in doing so you have created your own unique twist , you’ll ‘sparkle’ every-day.
I hope you are now inspired and have a little more confidence to embrace our colourful summer ahead.
